The Rise of the Sun King

Fury enveloped him. Cold rage owned his soul and made his entire being ache with need - the need for revenge.

His body felt as if it would never move again. But his mind... his mind would not stop.  Laying in his bed, he plotted how he would repay his wife for her treachery. Surely no simple punishment could be enough for the woman who had plotted to overtake the Sun throne.  No, only the best and most devious punishments would suffice.

He tormented himself for days, reliving in his mind a thousand times, and a thousand times more, the careful manipulations that she had carried out in order to secure the throne for her lover. She had even

Oh yes, she would pay.

First her advisors would be taken from her, and then her family, and lastly her lover.  Only then, as she stood alone in the world, would he take her life.  But first she must know pain. Pain such as had never been felt before.

For days he amused himself with fantasies of the various torments that he could inflict on her. They filled his mind until there was nothing else. Nothing but a blind, all-consuming, desperate need to Kill. That. Woman.

It was dark there, in his bed. Dark, and quiet, and peaceful. With nothing to distract him from these thoughts, And as he rested, he grew more and more mad with his vengeful plots, until in his hour of greatest need, they gave him strength. The strength to rise up once more from his bed, and see justice done.

Reaching a hand out, he tore through the veil, then clawed through the earthen ceiling of his grave, until he could pull himself out into the night. It was fitting, he thought, that there was a full moon. There should be a witness to the rise of the true Sun king.
